Ecology start up business, Morton: Pattison has reported rapid growth following investment from SWIG Finance.

Launched in February 2015 by Mike Morton and Paul Pattison, the service provider to the ecology sector has been progressing faster than forecast.

The pair decided to start their own business as they felt they had a lot to offer the conservation and landscape sector other contractors could not. With backgrounds in biodiversity, land management and design with some of the UK’s most progressive conservation organisations, Mike and Paul felt they had an in-depth understanding of what clients want.

Mike and Paul approached SWIG Finance for funding and were successful in their application for a government-backed Start Up Loan, each applying for £4,995 to fund start up costs.

Paul says: “The funding from SWIG Finance enabled us to set up our core habitat management and contracting work by allowing us to purchase the expensive tools and equipment we needed, including a 4×4 vehicle and chainsaws.

“In addition to this the funding kick-started the landscape architecture side of the business by providing funds for a powerful computer and CAD design software.”

Morton: Pattison works with NGOs, local authorities, large countryside estates, developers an zoos providing practical habitat management, restoration and creation projects as well as a range of professional services. The company already has an eye on future growth, with potential for their skills to take them into the development sector, such as new solar installations.
