Thanks to this cash boost from SWIG Finance, we were able to accelerate our growth plans and have now opened our sixth salon. My Business Manager, Nicki Kimberley, went into so much detail when we were discussing my application, and she made me feel like the sky was the limit.
I speak to female entrepreneurs every day, and I know from experience that many women feel intimidated when it comes to accessing finance. I always try to encourage these female business owners to speak to someone like Nicki, who will make them feel believed in, heard, and valued.
I think Nicki would have been just as disappointed as me if the application was not successful, she really bought into my business and our growth plans.
The Importance of Supporting Women-Led Businesses
Supporting women-led businesses is vital not just for individual success but for fostering a more inclusive economy. According to the British Business Bank’s Investing in Women Code Report 2024, women-led businesses receive a significantly smaller portion of external finance than their male counterparts. Yet, when they do receive the right financial support, these businesses often show high growth potential. The same report highlights that businesses with female leadership tend to be more focused on sustainability and social impact, aligning closely with broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals.
At SWIG Finance, we are committed to breaking down the barriers that prevent women business owners from accessing the finance they need. Women often feel less confident when applying for external finance, and the perception of the financial industry as male-dominated can be a significant hurdle. Our lending teams help to create a welcoming and supportive environment, making it easier for female entrepreneurs to approach us with confidence. By offering flexible, responsible finance options, we aim to bridge the gender finance gap and ensure that women-led businesses have the same opportunities to thrive.
Building Confidence through Workshops
At SWIG Finance, we don’t just provide funding—we also help build confidence. Through initiatives like workshops with “Mums in Business” organisations, we aim to equip female entrepreneurs with the tools they need to confidently pitch their business ideas and navigate financial challenges. These workshops focus on knowing your business inside and out, being able to answer tough questions, and sharing your passion. This holistic support ensures that women feel empowered not only to grow their businesses but also to approach future opportunities with confidence.
